Imam ash-Shaafi'ee:
"Four things strengthen the intellect: To avoid superfluous speech, to use Siwaak, to sit with righteous people and to sit with the scholars."
(al-Aadaab ash-Shar'iyyah 3/30)

Mu’adh ibn Jabal on his deathbed:
"O Allah! You know that I did not love this life or prolonged stay in it to own springs or to plant trees, but rather to fast for long hot days, stand in prayer during cold nights, strive (in Your cause) for hours at a time, and sit knee to knee with scholars during religious gatherings."

Al-Jarjaani:"The hypocrite is the one who is a disbeliever in his heart but pays lip service to faith outwardly."(At-Ta‘reefaat, p. 298)

al-Hassan al-Basri (rahimahullah) said: "Handshaking increases friendliness" [al-Muntaqaa Min Makaarimil Akhlaaq 189]

“By Allah, if I fasted all day without eating, prayed all night without sleeping, spent all my wealth in the Cause of Allah, then died without love in my heart for those who obey Allah and without hatred in my heart for those who disobey Allah, none of this would benefit me in the least.”

Bakr Ibn Abd Allah Al-Muzani:
"If you find (feel) staleness from your brothers, that is from a sin you have committed, so repent to Allah. And if you find (feel) from them love, that is for an act of obedience you did so thank Allah."

Ahmad ibn Harb would say:
“If six mannerisms are gathered in a woman, her goodness is perfected: Guarding the five prayers, yielding to her husband, pleasing her Lord, guarding her tongue from backbiting and gossip, forsaking worldly possessions, and being patient following a tragedy.”

It is reported that Al-Hasan Al-Basri once said during the funeral of a man:
"May Allah have mercy on the man who works for the likes of this day; for
today you are able to do what these brothers of yours, the residents of
these graves, cannot do. So make full use of your health and free time
before the day of distress and accounts comes upon you." (Ibn Abi Al-Dunya,
Dhamm Al-Dunya article 53)

Shaykh Abdur-Rahmaan as-Sa`di:
"If Allah wouldn't make the believers strong in paradise, then they would have lost their mind and died out of happiness and joy."
(Taysir-ul-Karim, p. 205)

Imam Malik:
"Indeed I am a human, I can make mistakes, and I can be correct, so look into my opinion, everything that is in agreement with the Book and the Sunnah, then take it, and everything that does not agree with the Book and the Sunnah then leave it."

As-Sariy:
"Make your grave your treasury, which you fill with as much good works as you can. When you end up in it, you will surely be pleased with what it has kept for you."
(Az-Zuhd, by al-Baihaqi, p. 229)

Khulayd al-’Asari said:
“Every lover desires to meet His beloved, so love your Lord and travel to Him with a fine journey; neither arduous or lax. This journey will take the believer to His Lord and whoever does not know the path to his Lord will not traverse it and there is no difference between such a person and an animal.”
(Abu Nu’aym, vol.2, p.232)


Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Ayyâd:
"When backbiting appears, brotherhood for Allah will disappear; and at that time you will be like things plated with gold and silver: wooden on the inside, [merely] looking good on the outside."
(Abû Nu’aym, Hilyah Al-Awliyâ`, Vol. 3 p395.)

Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah:"A sincere adviser does not have enmity towards you if you do not accept his advice."(Ar-Rooh, Page 233)

"Whoever is not honored by fearing Allah, there is no honor for him" - Imam Shafie rahimahullah

Shaykh as-Sa'di:  "This life is a journey. One travels towards his Lord from birth."  (Taysir-ul-Karim, p. 836)

Ibn Qudhama al-Hanbali:"Abu ‘Amr al-Awzai, said: ‘Stick to the narration of those who come before you, even if the people reject you. And beware of the opinions of men, even if they beautify them for you with their speech.’"(Luma’tul Iitqadh, The Illuminating Creed page 9)

Wahb bin Munabbih:"The believer socializes in order to know; and is silent in order to be safeguarded; and speaks in order to understand; and secludes away in order to become enriched." (Siyar A'laam An-Nubalaa vol. 4 page 551)

Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah: "Just as Islam erases what came before it, repentance also erases what came before it."(Majmoo' al -Fatawaa, 22/12)

“Whomever Allah gives provision and he thinks that Allah is not testing him, has no wisdom. Whomever has little provision and thinks that Allah will not look at (provide for) him, has no wisdom.” – Hasan al-Basri

Umar ibn Al-Khattab (radiyAllahu'anhu):
"Let not your love be infatuation, and let not your hatred be destruction."
It was asked, “How is this?” He said:
"When you love, you are infatuated like a child; and when you hate, you  love destruction for your companion."
(Al-Bukhari, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Number 1322)

Shaqeeq Al-Balkhee (rahimahullaah) said: "Whoever wants to know his knowledge of Allaah, then let him look at which of the two his heart is more firmly attached to; (a)What Allaah has promised him and (b) what the people have promised him."[Hilyatul Awliyaa 6/68]

Imam al-Juwayni (d. AH 478, Nishapur) “I do not eat or sleep out of habit, but only if sleep overcomes me whether by night or by day, and only if I need to eat, whatever the time.”

Abu 'Abdullah bin al-Khatib narrated:"Abu Hamdun (one of the Tabi'een) had a scroll on which was written the names of three hundred of his close friends, and he used to supplicate for them - one by one - every single night." (Sifat us-Safwah' 1/492)

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal: "People need knowledge more than they need food and drink, because they need food and drink once or twice a day, but they need knowledge with every breath they take." (Miftaah Daar al-Sa’aadah 1/65-66)

Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah: "Be the son of the Hereafter, and do not be the son of this worldly life, verily the son follows his mother." (Al-Fawaid p.79)

Bishr ibn Al-Haarith:"The (person) that loves fame has not feared Allah. He also said: Do not act in order to be mentioned, and hide your good deeds as you hide your bad ones"(As-Siyar 10/476)

Imam an-Nawawi: "I took advantage of every moment in the day, night and even on the road. I was always busy with knowledge." (at-Tadhkirah 4/178

al-Fudhayl bin 'Iyyaadh: "Rectify what is left of your life and Allah will forgive you for what has passed." (Jaami' al-'Oloom p.714)

"Just as the body needs breaks and rest, the soul also is in need of nourishment. Prayer is the primary source of nourishment for the soul."  --  Dr. Bilal Philips

"They are not harmed by what they are afflicted with in this world; Allah will compensate them for all of their hardships with Paradise." -- Imaan Sufyaan

Al-Fudayl Ibn ‘Iyaad: “Whoever sits with a person if innovation, then beware of him and whoever sits with a person of innovation has not been given wisdom. I (would) love that there was a fort of iron between me and a person of innovation. That I eat with a Jew and a Christian is more beloved to me than that I should eat with a person of Innovation.” (Al-Laalikaa'ee, 1149)

Hassan Basri said, "The true believer combines piety with fear of Allah while the hypocrite combines sins with self-satisfaction (that he is going to Paradise)," (Commentary on Aqeeda Tahawiya, p; 149)

Al-Tabari said "Spending on one's family is obligatory, and he will be rewarded for what he gives according to his intention. There is no contradiction between its being obligatory and its being called charity,rather it is better than voluntary charity." (Fath al-Baari 9/498)

"Ikhlaas is the way to salvation, Islam is the ship to safety and Emaan is

Fudayl ibn `Iyyaad:
“Any evil doer can think he is a good person, the ignorant can think of himself as a scholar, the greedy thinks of himself generous, the stupid thinks of himself as intelligent. Life is short and hopes are unlimited, yet many are too dazzled with themselves to see a clear picture for advancement.”

Adh-Dhahabee commented: “I swear by Allaah that Fudayl is right. One is also unjust, yet believes he is the oppressed, eats unlawfully and thinks himself pious, a sinner and thinks himself honest, and seeks knowledge but hasn’t even learned to implement it to his family.”(Sifaatus-Sawfah 8/440)

"Useful knowledge is that which makes you grow in the fear of Allah, increases you in awareness of your defects, deepens your knowledge of the worship of your Lord Most High, decreases your desire for this world and increases your desire for the life to come, and opens your eyes to the defects of your actions so that you guard against them."
 Imam Ghazali ~

Ibn Hajar:"Whoever Met the Prophet (ﷺ), Believed in him, and Died upon Islam (is considered as a Sahaabi)."(Asqalaani's Al-Isaba 1/7)

Ibn Qayyim-il-Jawziyyah: "Sins have many side-effects. One of them is that they steal knowledge from you."(ad-Da', p.65)

Umar bin Al-Khattaab (radiyAllahu'anhu) said: “Don’t be fooled by the recitation of Qur’an for it’s only words that we utter. Rather, look at the one who acts upon it.” (Iqtidaa-u al'ilmi al'amal pg 71)

Imam ash-Shaafi'ee said: "When some of the people of desires came to Maalik Ibn Anas, he said, As for me, then I am upon clear evidence froth my Lord and my Religion. And as for you, then you are in doubt, so go to a doubter and argue with him."
(Al-Hilyah 6/324)

Al-Imam ibn Hibban:
“Spying is one of the branches of hypocrisy, and thinking the best (of others) is one of the branches of faith. The intelligent person thinks the best of his brothers, and is personally concerned about the grievances and sorrows of his brother. However the ignorant person assumes the worst about his brothers and is unconcerned about the grievances and sorrows of his brother.”

Ibn Hazm:
"What indicates a person’s weak religion and fear of God, is that he seeks for an opinion that suits his desire." (al-Ihkam 5/64)

Qutaybah ibn Sa’eed:
"I have sat down in the company of eminent jurists, prolific worshipers, and men who were renowned for their disregard of this world  and its temptations, and yet, ever since I have reached the age of understanding, I have not seen anyone who is equal to Muhammad ibn Ismaa’eel (al-Bukhari). He is to his era what ‘Umar (ibn al-Khattaab) was during the lifetime of the Companions.”

Ibn al-Jawzi:
"When your companion becomes angry and says something that is unwarranted, you should not take it too hard. His situation is that of a drunken person who is not aware of what is taking place. Instead, be patient, even if it means only for a little while. If you reciprocate his words with harsh words of your own, you become like the sane person who seeks revenge on a madman, or the conscious person who seeks retribution from an unconscious one. Look at him with a merciful eye and pity him for his actions."

‘Umar ibn Al-Khattâb (radiyAllahu'anhu):
"Verily, the followers of opinion are the enemies of the Sunan (the teachings of Allâh’s Messenger as passed down in hadith): they were unable to preserve them and their meanings escaped them, and when asked [questions] they were too embarrassed to say ‘We don’t know,’ so they opposed the Sunan with their opinions."
(Ibn Abî Zamanîn, Usûl Al-Sunnah article 8; Al-Lâlakâ`î, Sharh Usûl I’tiqâd Ahl Al-Sunnah article 201)

Imaam Abu Bakr al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadee:
“And it is necessary to see the character (of every narrator) who attributes a narration to the Prophet (ﷺ) except the Companion; because the justice of the Companions is proven and known because Allah (Subhana Waa taala) has praised them, and informed us about their purity and has mentioned about them in the Qur’an.” He then brought the evidences from the Qur’an and the Sunnah for this and then said: “This is the Madhhab of all the scholars and of all the credible jurists.”
(al-Maati` al-Kifaayah Fee `ilm al-Riwaayah)

A man said to al-Hasan al-Basri (rahimahullah):
‘The people sit around you so that they may find fault with you!’ So he said, ‘Indeed, I encouraged my soul to aspire for Paradise so it aspired for it. Then I encouraged it to aspire for salvation from Hellfire and so it aspired for it. Then I encouraged it to aspire for salvation from the people, but I didn’t find a way to that. Indeed the people were not pleased with their Creator although He provides for them, so how can they be pleased with another creation like themselves?’

al-Fuḍayl ibn ‘Iyāḍ:
"The slave’s fear of Allah is as substantial as his knowledge of Him, and his disinterest in this life is as substantial as his interest in the Hereafter."
(As-Siyar, vol. 8, p.426)
