About Egypt :: A Man for All Seasons on Foreign Policy

by Shadi Hamid
In January, Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh was a long shot to become Egypt's next president. When I walked into the Islamist candidate's basement in a far-flung Cairo suburb -- which was doubling as a "backup" headquarters -- it made me think back to the early, insurgent days of Barack Obama's campaign, when Hillary Clinton was still the presumptive Democratic nominee. The basement, with its large spare rooms, was packed with young volunteers. It had a chaotic, bustling feel. Aboul Fotouh's supporters may have hailed from radically different backgrounds, but they believed, above all, in the candidate. They wanted to transcend the old battle lines of "Islamist" or "liberal" and reimagine Egyptian politics in the process.

Necessity of Reflection and Self–Criticism :: Fethullah Gülen

Reflection literally means to think on a subject deeply, systematically, and in great detail. In a spiritual context, it signifies reflection, which is theheart's lamp, the spirit's food, and the knowledge's spirit. Reflection allows believers to discern what is good and evil, beneficial and harmful, beautiful and ugly; and makes the universe a book to study and reveals the Qur'an's deeper meanings more clearly.
Reflection is a vital step in becoming aware of what is going on around us and of drawing conclusions from it. It opens the door of experience, nourishes the truth, and opens the eye of the pupil of the heart. As Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) stated: "Reflect on God's creation, but do not reflect on Allah'' (authenticated by Al-Albani), for people will never be able to comprehend Allah.

Why do some people feel depressed?

Why do some people feel depressed? A person who doesn't know why he was created and has no aim in life is lost.

A Muslim has all the answers to questions that confuse others. He knows how he was created and why Allah created him. He knows what to do in this life and how he will be rewarded or punished according to his deeds in the other life. He lives in harmony with all other creatures on earth because they worship the same Lord; the creator and the sustainer. That is why, a true Muslim never sees a psychiatrist in his life.

Allah says: "Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest".

Therefore, feel good about life because Allah only wills good things for you but you may not know or understand that.

Physical Beauty And Knowldege

"When Allah granted Prophet Yusuf physical beauty it caused him to be locked up in the prison.
But when Allah granted him knowledge (when he interpreted the dream of the king) it not only took him out of prison but elevated his rank in society.
Clearly showing us the virtue of knowledge, and that physical beauty does not mean a thing."

perfection of Allah's ihsan

"From the perfection of Allah's ihsan is that He allows His slave to taste the bitterness of the break before the sweetness of the mend. So He does not break his believing slave, except to mend him. And He does not withhold from him, except to give him. And He does not test him (with hardship), except to cure him."
--Ibn Ul Qayyim

Fear

When you fear the creation, you feel repelled by it and run away from it,
but when you fear the Creator, you feel close to Him and run towards Him.

Knowing The Deep From Tariq Ramadan

And once again, when I was just deeply scratched and ragged by some of the ideas and situations of life, in the very next morning, I found a video of Professor Ramadan, I just finished a half an hour soul-searching lecture. And Yes! for Allah's blessings, I got my answers out there!! How miraculous is the greatness of my Lord, He is too sweet to send me the very meaning of my life and thoughts which was barely essential to my life.

An awesome Nasheed

Whom to Obey

O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the (Prophetic) Messenger and those in authority from amongst you, then if you have a dispute concerning any matter, refer it to Allah and the (Prophetic) Messenger if you believe in Allah and the Last Day (of Jedgement). That is better and very good in the end.

-- (Surah Nisa, 4:59)

Our Everyday Mistakes

When we are stressed, we listen to music instead of listening to the Qur'an.
When we feel sad, we cry to our friends instead of crying to Allah.
When we feel angry, we scream instead of doing wudhoo.
When we feel empty, we go watch a movie instead of reflecting on the words of Allah.
When we feel cheated, we plan to take revenge instead of having patience.
When we don't like another Muslim, we gossip about them instead of loving for the sake of Allah.
When we need inspiration, we look into the lives of the wealthy instead of the lives of those who have been promised paradise.

Why do we look for peace and happiness in all the wrong places?
Do we not understand that engaging in the wrong behavior will only make matters worse?

Jazakumullahu khairan for reading. Please do SHARE after reading :-)

Said Ramadan quotes

Our problem is one of spirituality.
If a man comes to speak to me about
the reforms to be undertaken in the
Muslim world, about political strategies
and of great geo-strategic plans, my
first question to him would be whether
he performed the dawn prayer in its time.

Allah Responds to the invocations of supplicants

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.

(Surah Baqarah: 186)

the seed of goodness yields

"the seed of evil carries away, while the seed of goodness yields. The first ascends towards the sky faster but it's roots are short. It ascends faster in order to prevent the tree of goodness from light and breeze, yet the tree of goodness remains keen on it's slow growth, because it's deep roots in the soil makes it up for her"

Time to Kick Porn Addiction Out of your System

This article has been reviewed by resident MM Psychologist Haleh Banani (link to author). LINK to the post of MuslimMatters
We WILL help you KILL porn addiction inshallah. This article does not rely or recommend "coaches". Maybe in a year, when we have testimonials from people who have been cured–and stay cured–with such coaching services, I'd be glad to advertise their services. For now, please don't post any such services provided, because this would be just advertisement that I do not, in good faith, agree with or can recommend. This is my own opinion, not MM's.
